The Beatles started the New year at number one followed by The Spencer Davis Group. 33 years later the lunchbox, aka Linford Christie, after beating all comers on the running track tried for chart glory with a remake of Keep On Running. The tune was a fast, punchy production that should have done much better in the charts than it did. The Beatles song Michelle was in pole position for three weeks at the end of January into February. Although this is a extremely well known Beatles song they actually didn't release it as a single in the UK. They did elsewhere and the Beatles version got to number one in Norway but it was the overlanders who took it to the top spot here.

Daisy Duke aka Jessica Simpson did a Linford Christie with the Nancy Sinatra song These Boots are made for Walking in 2005. just like Linford the record buying public didn't really take to it a second time round and the remake didn't get the chart position it deserved. Now if you hire a wedding DJ that doesn't have some sinatra classics like strangers in the Night in his tool kit then your grandad is not going to be happy. Even today the classic crooners like frank provide the perfect mood music for the Wedding Breakfast of soundtrack to a sophisticated dinner party. If you are a new DJ and think there is no place for this type of music at a party you are wrong, get some Frank, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Junior etc pronto. The times you play these tracks may only on the rare and odd occasion but when required these standards are essential.

Chris Farlowe had his only Uk number one with Out Of Time which is a great R and B pop track. It was a big step up as most of his recordings only scraped into the charts including his version of Handbags and Glad rags which was covered by Rod stewart and later the Stereophonics in 2001.
